bmw cars 2011 models-2011 BMW X3 xDrive28i Review

2011 BMW X3 xDrive28i Review
Manufacturers are constantly looking to fill the void. They are searching to satisfy every single customer out there, to create vehicles that will suit every need and specific budgets. If they feel a market hasn't been tapped, they come out with a new model. Enter the BMW X3.
When the BMW X3 was first made available in North America in 2006, I was as intrigued as the next person. BMW already had the X5 and now here was this slightly smaller, slightly cheaper version of the same vehicle. Hmm, who was this vehicle for?
Then, just a few short years later, BMW released the X6 and then shortly after that, the 5 Series GT and this year, the X1. I realize I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here, but what I'm trying to get at is the fact that BMW has added so many Xs to its line-up that it surpassed the positive XXX connotation and reached the negative stay-away-there's-something-wrong-here way.

While the X3 may have had good placement when it first arrived on the scene, since the X6 and X1 jumped on board (and the non-X but crossover-like 5 Series GT came about), the X3's relevance seems to have dwindled (in my mind) despite being the highest-selling X in the lineup. I think it's the X1's North American appearance that really throws me off the X3 scent and me thinks the X3 will suffer because of it.

Family tree aside, let's have a look at the car itself and what it has to offer.

The X3 is a fantastic-looking SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle). With sharply accented lines and a sculpted rear, the X3 might be smaller than the X5, but it still has presence on the road. With BMW's signature kidney grille up front alongside tailored headlights, the look of the X3 is one of sophistication and class.

And that look continues to the rump where BMW's L-shaped taillights are evident, as are twin tailpipes. Other than that, this BMW is quite ordinary looking. There's no bulge in the hood, no exaggerated wheel wells and even the spoiler off the roof in the rear is understated and barely noticeable.

And that's kind of how I feel about the X3 in general; it's there, but unless you're really looking for it, you're not going to see for all the other Xs beside it.

Bmw cars-bMW X5, X6 go Xclusive

BMW X5, X6 go Xclusive
BMW cannot be accused of inventing the options catalogue - Harley-Davidson must take responsibility for that - but the Blue Propeller Boys have certainly made it into something of an art form.
The latest pages are focussed on the X5 and X6 models, which one would think are two of the most complete automotive packages on the planet, as issued.
Apparently not, if Munich's munchkins are to be believed; from the third quarter of 2011 each will be available as an Exclusive Edition model, "offering customers an exclusive choice of unique options and materials enabling them to configure their BMW with an unmistakable personal touch".
Perhaps more importantly, from a real-world perspective, the X5 xDrive30d will also be available with BMW BluePerformance technology, enabling it to comply with the EU6 exhaust emissions standard, due to be implemented in 2014.
That's achieved thanks to a diesel particulate filter in-line with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a nitrous oxide absorber that scrubs nitrous gases and sulphur oxides from the exhaust emissions.
According to BMW the system is maintenance-free for the life of the car and won't affect performance, fuel consumption or emissions, which stay at an average of 7.5 litres/100km and 198g/km of CO2.

Exclusive Edition X5 and X6 models are are upholstered in beige leather with black contrasting seams.
OK, enough bunny-hugging - let's get to the good stuff:
The new BMW Individual package for the X5 and X6 includes a new colour, black metallic, door sills with the BMW Individual logo, and distinctive new trim accents with either black patterned-leather or brown merino-leather upholstery. The X5 Sport Package also includes a new M leather steering wheel with integrated gearshift paddles.
At the same time the X5 and X6 will become available as Exclusive Edition models for the first time, available only in metallic bronze (X5) and metallic silver (X6). Special door sills bear BMW Edition signage and the interior gets a touch of extra class with a dark grey headliner, fine wood trim in dark bamboo grain and floor mats with beige edging.
The electrically adjustable, heated front seats are upholstered in beige leather with black contrasting seams.
Exclusive Edition X5 and X6 models are also available with special 20", Y-spoked light alloy rims.

Company history
BMW Headquarters in Munich, Germany
Main article: History of BMW
BMW entered existence as a business entity following a restructuring of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft engine manufacturing firm in 1917. After the end of World War I in 1918, BMW was forced to cease aircraft engine production by the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty. The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production in 1923 once the restrictions of the treaty started to be lifted, followed by automobiles in 1928–29.
The circular blue and white BMW logo or roundel is portrayed by BMW as the movement of an aircraft propeller, to signify the white blades cutting through the blue sky – an interpretation that BMW adopted for convenience in 1929, twelve years after the roundel was created. The emblem evolved from the circular Rapp Motorenwerke company logo, from which the BMW company grew, combined with the blue and white colours of the flag of Bavaria, reversed to produce the BMW roundel. However, the origin of the logo being based on the movement of a propeller is in dispute, according to an article posted in 2010 by the New York Times, quoting "At the BMW Museum in Munich, Anne Schmidt-Possiwal, explained that the blue-and-white company logo did not represent a spinning propeller, but was meant to show the colours of the Free State of Bavaria."[unreliable source?]
BMW's first significant aircraft engine was the BMW IIIa inline-six liquid-cooled engine of 1918, much preferred for its high-altitude performance. With German rearmament in the 1930s, the company again began producing aircraft engines for the Luftwaffe. Among its successful World War II engine designs were the BMW 132 and BMW 801 air-cooled radial engines, and the pioneering BMW 003 axial-flow turbojet, which powered the tiny, 1944-1945-era jet-powered "emergency fighter", the Heinkel He 162 Spatz. The BMW 003 jet engine was tested in the A-1b version of the world's first jet fighter, the Messerschmitt Me 262, but BMW engines failed on takeoff, a major setback for the jet fighter program until successful testing with Junkers engines.
